Work with us
pr
Alongside the newsroom, News Avenue takes on a small number of PR and brand consulting engagements. What follows is what that work looks like and who it is for.
Most organisations do not have a story problem. They have a telling-it problem: the
thing that makes them worth paying attention to is real and true, and nobody outside the
building has heard it.
That is the work. We take what is actually happening in an organisation and find the
version of it that a journalist, a customer or a candidate will stop for.
## What we take on
- **Launch and announcement work** — a new site, a new product, a new appointment.
Getting it in front of the right people rather than the largest number of them.
- **Media relations** — building the list, making the calls, and preparing whoever has
to answer the difficult question afterwards.
- **Response and reputation** — what you say when something has gone wrong, and saying it
before somebody else says it for you.
- **Ongoing communications** — the regular drumbeat, for organisations with something to
say most months and nobody whose job it is to say it.
## How we work
We start with a conversation rather than a proposal, because the first question is often
whether this is a communications problem at all. Sometimes it is a product problem, or a
pricing problem, or nobody inside the company can agree on what it does any more. Saying
so is more useful than selling you a campaign.
If we take the work, you deal with the people doing it. There is no account layer between
you and the person writing the release.
## What we will not promise
We cannot promise a specific outlet, a specific journalist or a specific date. Those
decisions belong to the people being pitched, and anyone who guarantees them is describing
a relationship with the press that you would not want to be part of.
What we can promise is that the story we take to them will be true, and that we will tell
you honestly when it is not interesting enough yet.
## Starting
The brief form is the way in. Say what you are trying to do, roughly when, and what has
already been tried. If we are not the right people for it, we will say so — and where we
can, point you at someone who is.
Start with a brief.
Tell us what you are trying to do. We reply with what we would do, what it would cost and how long it would take — and nothing is charged for that conversation.
