🚗 Review: GAC Emzoom R Style
Price: R549,900
First off, let’s give the Chinese some credit, they are fighting and they are coming in hot. Our usual house brand manufacturers are starting to sweat because this GAC Emzoom is bringing serious competition into the game.
On the outside, the Emzoom is funky, sporty, compact and definitely comes packed with the ultimate sport kit. I’ll be honest though, for all the sport features inside, the exterior could have been a little bolder. The front grille is outstanding, but the rest of the body feels like it could have had some extra “wow” styling to match the beast inside.
Driving Experience
Now, let’s talk about the drive, flawless. The way this car handles curves, hills, and tight steering? Every single box ticked. The overall feel behind the wheel gave me that confident "I’m in control" vibe that every driver loves.
Engine wise, the R Style GAC Emzoom packs a 1.5L 4 cylinder turbo paired with a 7 speed wet dual clutch automatic transmission. And here’s the kicker, this car wants you to go. The second you tap the accelerator, it jumps. It’s almost like the car is saying, “Why are you still crawling? Let’s fly!” For some, that extra surge of power might feel a bit much, but hey, it’s a sports car and it does exactly what it promises.
Safety and Tech
This Emzoom is fully loaded with features. You’ve got:
- Anti collision warning (yes, the car literally brakes for you)
- Cruise control, ABS, and EBD
- A super user friendly infotainment system (much easier than the GAC Emkoo’s confusing layout)
- Panoramic sunroof
- 18 inch alloy wheels
- Wireless charging pads
- Climate control that’s simple to use
- Apple CarPlay (though no Android Auto, instead you get CarbitLink)
You also get a cool exhaust button. If you want to make a loud, dramatic entrance at a party, one press and the car goes from whisper to roar. Nice touch, GAC.
Interior and Comfort
Inside, the Emzoom does not disappoint:
Interior and Comfort
Inside, the Emzoom does not disappoint:
- Quality door stitching and finishes
- Rear seat armrest with cupholders
- USB C charging in the back
- Spacious boot with 60/40 split seats and a spare wheel (Marie biscuit style)
- Plenty of hidden storage, including under the armrest (ladies, yes, even handbag space)
One downside though, for a “sports car,” there are no paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Small miss there.
Driving Modes
You’ve got three driving modes to choose from: Eco, Comfort, and Sport. With a five year service plan and warranty included, the Emzoom is offering some serious bang for your buck.
Final Thoughts
The GAC Emzoom R Style is a whole lot of car with a whole lot of gas. It is powerful, tech packed, fun to drive, and priced very competitively at R549,900. Sure, it could have looked a bit sportier on the outside, and yes, I wish it had paddle shifters. But overall, the Chinese have delivered a real contender.
Would I recommend it? Hmm... sort of, If you want sporty performance, modern tech, and value, this is a car that will keep our big name brands looking over their shoulders.
Score: 7 out of 10
